Figures collected from public bank sources, September 2026. Charges change often and vary by account type, branch location, and channel — always confirm the current figure with your bank before relying on it.
ATM cash withdrawal
| Bank | Beyond free limit | Free transactions/month |
|---|---|---|
| SBI | ₹21 + GST | 3 at other banks' ATMs (metro) / 5 (non-metro) |
| ICICI Bank | Up to ₹23 + GST | 3 at other banks' ATMs (metro) / 5 (non-metro) |
| Axis Bank | Up to ₹23 + GST | 5 free at Axis ATMs; 3 (metro) / 5 (other) at non-Axis ATMs |
The standard industry pattern is 5 free transactions/month at your own bank's ATMs everywhere, and 3 (metro) or 5 (non-metro) at other banks' ATMs — beyond that, a per-transaction fee plus GST applies on both financial and, at some banks, non-financial transactions (balance enquiry, mini statement).
SMS / mobile alerts
| Bank | Charge |
|---|---|
| ICICI Bank | 15 paise per SMS alert |
| Axis Bank | 25 paise per SMS, capped at ₹15/quarter for mandatory alerts (ATM/POS, security) |
Non-maintenance of minimum balance
Most banks charge a penalty (sometimes capped) if your average balance falls below the required minimum — see the Minimum Balance by Bank page for current thresholds. ICICI Bank, for example, caps its non-maintenance charge at ₹500 or 6% of the shortfall, whichever is lower.
Cheque book
Most savings accounts include a limited number of free cheque leaves per year (commonly 25-50); additional leaves are typically charged per leaf or per book. Exact free limits and per-leaf charges vary by bank and account variant — check your bank's official tariff sheet for the current number.
